Designing filterable content without making it feel heavy

Small interface decisions that make sorting, tags, and pagination feel calm and predictable.

Filtering should reduce effort, not introduce a second task. Clear defaults matter because most visitors will scan before they refine.

For article lists, I like compact controls, visible selected states, and pagination that updates after the filter is applied. The interface should explain itself through behavior.

When the controls stay quiet, the content remains the focus.
